2009 Fantasy Baseball Preview

Coming soon to TML: Tune in live while BP drafts his baseball team. I don’t really watch baseball. When I was in middle school my mornings consisted of eating four bowls of Capn’ Crunch and going over all the baseball box scores. This accomplished two things. I was a big boy and I knew up to the minute baseball stats. Well, as up to the minute as possible. The internet hadn’t exactly blown up yet. Why wait fifteen minutes to go online to check stats when you could just pick up the paper. Now the opposite is true. And I officially feel old for the first time in my life.

At this point in my life, I really don’t follow baseball that much. I’ll watch in the playoffs and I know if the Marlins suck or are challenging for the wild card. But as far as fantasy baseball knowledge goes, I still believe that Frank Thomas can anchor a team.

But fantasy is still fun. So this year, I’m going to live vicariously through BP. Anyone he picks, I will cheer for. If I happen to hear about a hidden gem that he can pick up as a free agent, I’ll mention it to him. This isn’t a partnership. I have no stake in whether or not his team performs well or not. In all honesty, the best case scenario is that his team is a middle-of the pack squad that is pushing for a playoff spot. If his team is on either of the extremes, being one of the best or one of the worst, I won’t hear the end of it. If his team is good I will hear from my room every night “PUJOLLSSSSSSSS”. Every other night I will hear “Wow, Josh Hamilton is so good, I can’t believe he was a 7th round keeper, I’m so awesome.” Then if his team sucks, all I will hear is “Ugh my team would be so good if Josh Hamilton hadn’t relapsed.” You get the point.

I need his team as an excuse to follow baseball. It’s the only way I’ll develop any kind of interest. For better or worse “Bryan’s Funny Team Name To Be Determined Later After Bryan Figures Out A Way To Make A Sexual or Drug Reference Based On One Of His Players” will be my window into baseball this year.

So on the night of the draft I’m going to sit next to BP and record his draft experience. One thing I can guarantee is that at the end of the night everyone’s team will be soooo good and there will be a lot of trash talking. See you all on Thursday. Or whenever the draft is.
